Video Review

While watching these six video's I learned a lot of information regarding art criticism.  During Greenberg on Art Criticism: An Interview by T J Clark I learned about the difficulties in writing reviews.  During the interview Clark discusses aspects of art and how art has become more developed throughout the years.  Greenberg states that he wants to see paintings become more developed throughout the creation of art.  During the interview the relationship between art and history was also discussed.  While watching Greenberg on Pollock: An Interview by T J Clark I learned about the legendary career that Pollock had.  Greenberg also stated that the way that Pollock expressed himself was extraordinary although the artwork that he created was "freakish and he was considered an outsider.  Greenberg also expressed how he enjoyed Pollocks' work and has become more familiar with it.  An Introduction to the Italian Renaissance (Giogio Vasari) was the most interesting video offered this week. This video talks about 400 years ago in Florence, Italy.  The video also discusses the development of art and how Italian artists contributed to it.  Giogio Vasari created a bibliography of Michelangelo which was interesting to hear about as well as create the doors to the Gate of Paradise.  It was to learn about the different types of art that were created by all different Italian artists.  The Critics: Stories from the Inside Pages was interesting because there are so many different ways that critics described criticism.  Criticism is a unique perspective as well as a different type of thinking and everything is critiqued.  Criticism also influences the ways that things are developed in the future.  The Colonial Encounter: Views of Non-Western Art and Culture was about Western art and the criteria that there is to create art similar to it.  Throughout the world, different cultures use this western style although cultures are different everywhere.  It was also interesting to learn about the different type of impressions of people that artists created.  Jackson Pollock: Michael Fried and T J Clark in Conversation was about the general importance of this artwork.  Pollock was a major influence in modern art and is a controversial artist.  There have been many disagreements about him and his importance to the art world.  His one piece was featured in both video's that discussed about him.

While watching these video's I found similarities between the video's as well as the art exhibit I created.  The video about Italian Renaissance was similar because I used Italian history in my project.  As far as the Art Criticism  project I have reviewed the project I will be critiquing.  These video's gave me a different perspective to critique art.  And also learn that critiquing is not always bad and that critiques help the future of art and types of art that are created.  I am looking forward to critiquing the art exhibit of my classmate because I think it will be enjoyable.

As always, I enjoy watching videos.  Videos personally give me the perspective that reading does not.  I have learned a lot of information about art criticism and I think I will be able to critique by classmates exhibit more thoroughly.  I have learned different styles of criticism as well as helpful ways to do so.
